Dust and death and global warming…

... is non existent in SL, but we still have destruction. Scripts can break, inventories and even our avatar shape (shudders) can get lost, and we yell at the linden gods when it happens. But who have ever guarantied us the 100% carefree, non-breakable environment?

“I have a business in here, FIX Second Life!” I hear some say. But I have never heard of a business anywhere that was risk free (except for being a undertaker, if you want a risk free bizz, be an undertaker).

Come on… running a bizz in SL is a piece of cake: You got NO production cost but the time you put into it. Once made, a copy can be sold in UNLIMITED numbers. You don’t need staff to sell your stuff, it sells itself, right out of the box. Of course you need to do some good advertisement to get your shop noticed. If you sell education, you save a lot on not having to pay much more than a tiny tier, or rent, to have a class. And you can reach people all over the world (now that the group IM is fixed that is… if it's fixed).

SL is not risk free. Show me a world that is, and I’d prolly stay away from it. That sounds like such a bore. I mean who'n'what could Kean Kelly yell at when she felt the need to let off some steam?

6 had something to say:

Hi Mike *waves* another busy day in paradise eh?

Yup. It's funny I was thinking similar things reading peoples complaints to the Lindens recently.

SL is lots of things, perfect is not one of them. It's a frontier, we're lucky to be among the first people
to exprience all this.

We've been given a world. For free... sure, it's not perfect, but no one is making you stay at home on your PC...

Maybe they thought it would be a perfect world? But then those people looking for a perfection out there are destined for disappointment wherever they go.

I imagine them like religious people in the past, sacrificing the last of the food to the gods and praying for change instead of adapting to the conditions.

It's no coincidence the Gods of RL never set up a customer support department.

Miracles happen all the time.. but never in my experience through whining to helpdesks. *grins*

and so it is... A bit of risk brings spice to life. Vinegar an salt taste awfull, but in the right proportions they can really flavour up the dish.
After all the SL risks are quiet limited. Yes, I must admit that I lost a couple of times stuff from my inventory. But hey, also in RL I throw away clothes I paid good (real) money for... not to mention the stuff washed / ironed in a wrong way.. :-(
And after your 17th Ruthing.. overcome the frustration and just post the pics on Flickr...

SL problems are keepong us busy; I even guess that crashes, slow rezzings, lagg etc.. rank in the top 5 of chat topics... Wouldnt Vint Falkens blog be monotonous without her Thursdays ragings against Wednesdays updates..??
(no offence Vint, just kidding.. I really like your work..)

We should show some consideration for the Lindens... they arent that almighty..
Its rather like in Greek mythology... yes, they are the gods but they suffer problems and powers beyond thre control too (network and server suppliers, 3th party drivers, internet providers..), while we, av's, are rather heroes / half-gods. We can fly, are inmortal.. we even have creative powers and the possibility to join them..

So me, I take SL as it comes. And when I am in there, I am a World Leader Pretend...

... mmm and a last remark for the entrepreneurs amongst us : where else can you do business without having to pay (income)taxes or to bribe someone.. SL is an offshore paradise... And face it.. during hurricane season, even Barbados isnt risk free..
