I was shy... and Yip said she was too... hehehe... its an odd situation really... even more odd to be shy about being 'looked at through four Yips eyes'. And it's really a great painting. Intense.
"How close is you avatar to your real self" Hamlet Au wanted to know. I told him the truth: That I look exactly as my avi in RL. Deformed feet and all :p
Is that me?... The vibe is sorta me... but i do look more soft and rounded in RL. And i definately look older on Yips painting, I kinda like that. I was allways mistaken for being way to young anyway, with equal loss of authority (problems with getting access to the clubs and stuff).
"Now you know how I see your avatar" Yip explained...
You can see her painting in world at http://slurl.com/secondlife/recursion/47/14/781
6 had something to say:
"Is that me?"
Here we have another exciting occasion to consider the always fascinating second life/real me duality :p
Is the portrait "you"? Who is "you" anyways? Are you the avatar Kean? or are you the human behind the avatar? or are you the portrait? or is the portrait of you? or... does it matter?
Eeeeeee!
aummmmmm
I am!
"Je pense donc je suis"
Excuse my French! :p
I felt very much like I was being examined when I sat for Yip. The result... obviously looks more real than my avi... it's not the Real me but there is something of me in it that comes through, maybe its more me than my avatar is...
It certainly looks more weary, more tired... hahaha. My avatar never looks like it's been sat in from of a screen for hours. *grins*
Me. Yipped.
Yes, it's a fascinating project Yip has. Like all of SL it reminds me of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray: "Every portrait that is painted with feeling is a portrait of the artist, not of the sitter." That should say something about our avatars - I think...erhm... well, of course the book also holds this line: "It is better to be beautiful than to be good. But ... it is better to be good than to be ugly."
I'm in a discussion with some folks about comparing RL experiences and art versus their SL counterparts. One artist went so far as to quote David Ross: "But reality is reality and virtual is virtual, and never the twain can meet.”
I say BAH... the longer I participate in the virtual space, the more I realize that I am a combination of my pixelated and fleshy self. You elected to have your avatar look this way so, in my mind's eye, when I think of kean kelly, I see three things: your avatar, your palette, and your avatar now Yipped.
Let's call it virtual baggage! Hahaha.
And that's not a bad thing.
